SPEECH / PUBLIC SPEAKING

What Is Public Speaking?

public speaking is a soft skill used to build engagement or relationships with the audience when communicating in public.

This is true whether in front of people who are already known or not at all.

You must often see people who speak fluently and well in front of hundreds or even entertaining people.

Well, basically, that person uses their public speaking skills to be confident and can convey clear information to everyone in front of them.

In general, this ability plays an important role in making someone look more professional.

Often times, some people feel a great deal of fear when asked to appear in front of a large crowd.

In fact, this fear can be resolved well if you are able to master public speaking skills .

Therefore, this ability can be said to be one of the main weapons that must be prepared by a person before entering the professional world.

Why is Public Speaking Important?

1. Increase self-confidence

Public speaking will help you to continue to increase your self-confidence.

This is certainly very useful for your future career development. The more confident you appear in front of many people, the better your performance will appear to others.

2. Growing leadership

You certainly want your career to progress to becoming a manager, right?

For a manager, one of his main tasks is of course speaking in front of his subordinates, whether it's during a meeting , project presentation , or other matters.

So, public speaking plays an important role in helping a manager to control himself and bring material or information clearly to his subordinates.

On the other hand, this ability also helps you to protect your subordinates. This of course will slowly foster leadership traits in a person.

3. Communicate ideas or opinions fluently

Taken from Skills You Need , public speaking is one of the best ways to convey an idea or opinion.

Often times we feel doubtful or even not confident about bringing up something, especially during meetings .

Now, that is one of the things you must avoid if you want to climb a good career ladder.

Through your public speaking skills , you can solve these problems well.

As explained above, this ability will help you to increase your self-confidence, including when you want to convey an idea or opinion.

When you have successfully conveyed an idea or opinion well, you may be considered a competent person.

Seeing all the benefits above, this ability can indirectly lead you to a good career ladder in the future.

How to Improve Public Speaking Skills

1. Training and practice

Feeling nervous when going forward in public is a natural thing to experience.

However, all of that can be handled well if you practice and prepare well in advance.

To quote Harvard Extension School , give yourself a moment to get back to practice and prepare yourself by rereading the notes you want to convey later.

In addition, train yourself by recording all your conversations via video. After that, you can see it to be used as evaluation material.

If you have time, ask your friends for help to listen to the recording and provide criticism and suggestions.

2. Understand your audience

Remember, when you speak in public, you are not talking about yourself, but about your audience.

Therefore, first understand who the audience will come to watch you. This will help you get the right message to them.

For example, the average audience will be 20-25 years old. Well, that means you have to be able to convey a message with danger that suits them.

In addition, you can also look for loopholes to insert humor that suits people their age.

3. Practice body style

Apart from verbal communication, nonverbal communication is also important to pay attention to in public speaking .

According to Verywell Mind , the combination of facial expressions, hand gestures, and body movements is important to pay attention to because it can convey what's on your mind.

So, as much as possible, practice your body movements properly, starting from hand movements, upright body positions, and eyes that continue to look at the audience.

Don't let your body movements just stop in one place, as well as your eyes. Master the stage as best you can in order to bring a good atmosphere for the audience.

Speech at the opening of the Bandung Conference/Pidato of Presiden Soekarno of Indonesia

This twentieth century has been a period of terrific dynamism. Perhaps the last fifty years have seen more developments and more material progress than the previous five hundred years. Man has learned to control many of the scourges, which once threatened him. He has learned to consume distance. He has learned to project his voice and his picture across oceans and continents. He has learned how to make the desert bloom and the plants of the earth increase their bounty. He has learned how to release the immense forces locked in the smallest particles of matter.

But has man's political skill marched hand-in-hand with his technical and scientific skill? The answer is No! The political skill of man has been far outstripped by technical skill, The result of this is fear. And man gasps for safety and morality.

Perhaps now more than at any other moment in the history of the world, society, government and statesmanship needs to be based upon the highest code of morality and ethics. And in political terms, what is the highest code of morality? It is the subordination of everything to the well being of mankind. But today we are faced with a situation where the well being of mankind is not always the primary consideration. Many who are in places of high power think, rather, of controlling the world.

Yes, we are living in a world of fear. The life of man today is corroded and made bitter by fear. Fear of future, fear of hydrogen bomb, fear of ideologies. Perhaps this fear is a greater danger than the danger itself, because it is fear, which drives men to act foolishly, to act thoughtlessly, to act dangerously.

All of us, I am certain, are united by more important things than those, which superficially divide us. We are united, for instance, by a common detestation of colonialism in whatever form it appears. We are united by a common detestation of racialism. And we are united by a common determination to preserve and stabilize peace in the world. We are often told, "Colonialism is dead." Let us not be deceived or even soothed by that. I say to you, colonialism is not yet dead. How can we say it is dead, so long as vast areas of Asia and Africa are unfree.

And, I beg of you do not think of colonialism only in the classic form, which we of Indonesia, and our brothers in different parts of Asia and Africa, knew. Colonialism has also its modern dress, in the form of economic control, intellectual control, and actual physical control by a small but alien community within a nation. It is a skillful and determined enemy, and it appears in many guises. It does not give up its loot easily. Wherever, whenever and however it appears, colonialism is an evil thing, and one which must be eradicated from the earth . . . .

ifthere are important people in front of me I will share my opinion, to be honest I have a lot of opinions.

Indeed, my thinking is still not able to reach the limits of government, but I want to say that there are many people out there who are still short of assets and possessions.

Increasing employment opportunities from supporting sectors may help this problem a little

education is also very important in pushing the Indonesian nation towards a more advanced direction. However, there are still not many and realize how important education is.
So I hope to improve the quality and make school fees easier because there are still many who want to go to school but there is no money

And job opportunities are better increased, I hope that in the community there should be teaching about creativity to process an object into an object that has a price or can be sold.

Then, I hope that the public and the government will make good use of the tourist spots in Indonesia to invite tourists to come to Indonesia.
